A Closer Look

Understanding Sports Nutrition Coaching

A sports nutrition dietitian builds a fueling plan around your actual training, not a generic macro calculator. What works for a marathon runner doesn’t work the same way for a strength athlete.

Why generic macro calculators fall short

Online calculators give you a single number based on age, weight, and activity level. They don’t account for your specific training schedule, when your hardest sessions happen, or how your energy needs shift week to week during a training cycle.

What actually supports performance

Protein timing, carbohydrate availability around training, and hydration all play a role in how you perform and recover. Fueling before, during, and after training, rather than relying on one big meal, tends to support both performance and recovery better.

Fueling for any level or sport

Sports nutrition support isn’t just for competitive athletes. Recreational runners, weekend lifters, and serious competitors all benefit from a plan built around their real training load, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

What to expect from a sports nutrition dietitian in Ontario

Working with a sports nutrition dietitian usually starts with a look at your training schedule, your current eating pattern, and your goals. From there, you get a written plan built around your sessions. Regular check-ins help adjust the plan as your training changes. Sessions are available online anywhere in Ontario, or in person in Sudbury.

What progress can look like

Performance and recovery improve gradually as fueling strategies are dialed in. Nutrition doesn’t work the same way for two different athletes, so no one can promise a specific outcome or timeline. What is realistic is a fueling plan that adapts as your training does.

Support for sports nutrition is available online across Ontario, or in person in Sudbury. A free 15-minute call is a low-pressure way to ask questions and see if this is a fit for you.
