Nutrition Support

Nutrition Support for Fatty Liver

Food is the front-line approach to fatty liver.

Fatty liver, or NAFLD, often responds to weight loss and better nutrition before anything else does. I build a plan that targets liver health, weight, and metabolic health together.

This is nutrition support. It works alongside your doctor's monitoring. It does not replace their care.

You've Probably Noticed

Why this is hard to figure out alone

  • Your doctor said to lose weight, but not how, for your liver specifically.
  • You're worried it will get worse before you can make changes.
  • Most weight-loss advice doesn't think about liver health at all.

A Closer Look

Understanding Fatty Liver

A fatty liver dietitian builds a plan around your liver, not a generic weight-loss template. Fatty liver, also called NAFLD, often improves with the same changes that support weight and blood sugar, but the details matter.

Why generic weight-loss advice falls short

Most weight-loss advice isn’t built with the liver in mind. Fatty liver responds well to gradual, steady weight loss, but rapid or extreme weight loss can sometimes make things worse. The type of food matters too. Added sugar and refined carbs affect the liver differently than whole food carbohydrates.

What actually helps fatty liver

Reducing added sugar, especially from sugary drinks, is one of the most researched nutrition changes for fatty liver. Building meals around protein, fiber, and healthy fats supports steady blood sugar and gradual weight loss, both of which support the liver.

Working with your doctor’s monitoring

Fatty liver is usually tracked with bloodwork or imaging over time. A dietitian’s plan works alongside that monitoring, not instead of it, and adjusts as your results change.

What to expect from a fatty liver dietitian in Ontario

Working with a fatty liver dietitian usually starts with a look at your current eating pattern, your labs, and your goals. From there, you get a written plan focused on gradual, sustainable changes. Regular check-ins help track progress. Sessions are available online anywhere in Ontario, or in person in Sudbury.

What progress can look like

Fatty liver can improve with sustained changes over months, not days. Nutrition doesn’t work the same way for two different people, so no one can promise a specific result or timeline. What is realistic is steady, gradual progress you can track alongside your doctor’s monitoring.

Support for fatty liver is available online across Ontario, or in person in Sudbury. A free 15-minute call is a low-pressure way to ask questions and see if this is a fit for you.
