You've Probably Noticed

Why this is hard to figure out alone

  • You've lost weight before. Then gained it back.
  • Every plan feels like a countdown to burnout.
  • No one looked at your life before handing you a meal plan.
The Fuel-First Method

A different starting point

My approach is called the Fuel-First Method. You eat protein and fiber first. This calms your hunger on its own, so you don't have to fight it with willpower. That's the difference between a plan that fails in six weeks and one that lasts.

A Closer Look

Understanding Lasting Weight Loss

A weight loss dietitian looks at more than the number on the scale. Losing weight and keeping it off are two different challenges, and most diets only focus on the first one.

What a personalized plan actually looks like

A generic meal plan treats everyone the same. A personalized plan starts with your history: your schedule, the foods you already enjoy, your budget, and what has and hasn’t worked before. From there, a written plan builds in protein and fiber at each meal, with room for the foods you don’t want to give up. The plan changes as your life changes, instead of asking you to follow the same rigid rules indefinitely.

What to expect from a weight loss dietitian in Ontario

Working with a weight loss dietitian usually starts with a full assessment covering your medical history, current eating pattern, and goals. From there, you get a written summary and a sample week of eating to show you where to start. Regular check-ins, whether weekly or monthly, help adjust the plan as your schedule and needs change. Sessions are available online anywhere in Ontario, or in person in Sudbury, and most extended health plans cover dietitian services.

Why cutting calories often stops working

Eating less can work for a while, but the body adapts. Hunger hormones shift, energy drops, and cravings get stronger. This is a normal response, not a lack of willpower. It’s a big reason many people lose weight on a diet, then gain it back within a year or two.

What protein and fiber actually do

Protein and fiber slow digestion and help you feel full longer. A plan built around eating enough of both first, before cutting anything else, is usually easier to stick with than one built around restriction. This is the idea behind the Fuel-First Method: fuel your body well, and hunger becomes easier to manage on its own.

Weight loss with a GLP-1 medication

More people are losing weight with the help of GLP-1 medications. These medications lower appetite, which can make it harder to get enough protein and other nutrients. A dietitian can help build a food plan that protects your muscle and nutrient intake while the medication does its part.

What progress can look like

Nutrition doesn’t work the same way for two different people, so no one can promise a specific number or a specific timeline. What is realistic is steady, sustainable progress: fewer energy crashes, less struggle with hunger, and habits that hold up on busy weeks, not just good ones. Some people notice changes in how their clothes fit or how they feel within the first few weeks. For others, it takes longer. A weight loss dietitian adjusts the plan as you go, instead of expecting you to follow the exact same plan for months without changes.

When it may help to get support

If you’ve tried cutting calories or following popular diets and the weight keeps coming back, that is not a personal failure. It usually means the plan did not fit your life. A Registered Dietitian looks at your history, your schedule, and how you actually eat, then builds a plan around that, instead of asking you to reshape your life around a diet.

Support for weight loss is available online across Ontario, or in person in Sudbury. A free 15-minute call is a low-pressure way to ask questions and see if working with a Registered Dietitian makes sense for you.
