Nutrition Support

Nutrition Support for High Cholesterol

Real changes to your plate can move real numbers.

High cholesterol responds to what's on your plate. I build a practical eating plan aimed at your numbers. It works alongside your doctor, not around them.

HSA-eligible Direct billing & receipts available No referral needed

This is nutrition support. It works alongside your doctor and any medication they prescribe. It does not replace their care.

You've Probably Noticed

Why this is hard to figure out alone

  • Your doctor said to watch your diet, but didn't say how.
  • You've cut back before. Your numbers barely moved.
  • You don't want to give up every food you enjoy.
The Fuel-First Method

A different starting point

My plan uses the Fuel-First Method. We focus on the fats, fiber, and food swaps that actually move cholesterol numbers. No meal turns into a punishment. And it works alongside whatever your doctor has already prescribed.

What You Get

Built around your real life

Built around your labs

Your plan is built around your real lab results, not a generic pamphlet.

Practical swaps

Real food changes you can keep making. Not a list of banned foods.

Works with your doctor

Fits alongside your doctor's care and any medication they've prescribed.

Whole-picture support

If weight or blood sugar are part of your picture too, we work on those as well.

A Closer Look

Understanding High Cholesterol

A high cholesterol dietitian looks at the full picture of what you eat, not just one number on a lab report. Cholesterol responds to food, but the changes that actually move it are often different from what people expect.

Why “just eat less fat” often falls short

For years, the advice was simple: cut fat. But cholesterol is more complicated than that. The type of fat matters more than the total amount, and fiber plays a bigger role than most people realize. Cutting out foods without replacing them with the right ones rarely moves the numbers much.

What actually helps lower cholesterol

Soluble fiber, found in foods like oats, beans, and some fruits, binds to cholesterol and helps remove it from the body. Swapping saturated fats for unsaturated ones, found in foods like olive oil, nuts, and fish, also helps. These changes work best as part of a full eating pattern, not as a single food swap.

Working alongside your doctor

Nutrition changes work alongside medication, not instead of it. If your doctor has prescribed a statin or another medication, a dietitian’s job is to build a food plan that supports what your doctor is already doing, not replace it.

What to expect from a high cholesterol dietitian in Ontario

Working with a high cholesterol dietitian usually starts with a look at your current eating pattern and your lab results. From there, you get a written plan built around foods you already like, with the swaps that matter most for your numbers. Regular check-ins help track progress and adjust the plan. Sessions are available online anywhere in Ontario, or in person in Sudbury.

What progress can look like

Cholesterol changes take time to show up on a lab test, often eight to twelve weeks. Nutrition doesn’t work the same way for two different people, so no one can promise a specific result. What is realistic is a sustainable eating pattern you can keep long after your next set of labs.

Support for managing high cholesterol is available online across Ontario, or in person in Sudbury. A free 15-minute call is a low-pressure way to ask questions and see if this is a fit for you.
